Playa del Amor: Mexico’s Hottest Gay Nude Beach in Zipolite (2025)
What Makes Playa del Amor So Special?
Let’s set the scene: Dramatic cliffs surround a cove where clothing is totally optional, especially as the sun dips low. What starts out as a mixed, naturist-friendly beach during the day becomes a lively LGBTQ+ haven by sunset, complete with beers, bodies, and occasional fire shows after dark. We’ve seen everything from nude DJ sets to impromptu skinny-dipping parties under the stars. This is a beach where people come to connect, be free, and have fun—without judgment. It’s all about good vibes, new friends, and maybe a little romance if you're lucky.

How to Get to Playa del Amor
If you’re staying near El Alquimista, one of the most popular gay-friendly hotels on the west side of Zipolite Beach, Playa del Amor is about a 20–30 minute walk. Here’s how to find it:
1. Head east along the beach, past La Màxima—Zipolite’s fabulous drag and beach bar.
2. Keep going until you pass the colorful Zipolite letters and reach Salmastro Restaurant.
3. Behind Salmastro, you’ll see a small path leading to a set of rocky stairs—that’s your gateway to Playa del Amor.
4. The stairs are uneven and rocky, so take care, especially after a few cervezas!
What to Expect at Playa del Amor
This beach is split by a rocky island and flanked by cliffs, creating a natural amphitheater where anything can happen—and often does. During the day, it’s chill and mixed with locals, tourists, straight nudists, and LGBTQ+ folks all mingling freely. But by sunset?
Cue the Speedos, clinking beer bottles, and spontaneous skinny dips.
Here’s what you’ll find:
- Two small beach palapas offering cold beers, margaritas, and sometimes even DJs or fire performers.
- No official bathrooms, so… plan accordingly.
- No lounger guarantee at sunset, so bring a towel or sarong.
- Nude-friendly vibe all day, all genders, all body types welcome.
- Unspoken “after dark” energy on the far-left side of the beach behind the rock (if you know, you know 😉).
When to Go
- Daytime: Laid-back, naturist, and open to all.
- Sunset: Where the magic happens. It’s sexy, social, and nearly 100% gay.
- Nighttime: The beach isn’t lit, but that doesn’t stop people from sticking around to skinny dip or... more.
- Big Events: New Year’s Eve, the Nudist Festival (February), Semana Santa (April), and Zipolite Diverso (May) draw massive gay crowds.
⚠️ Safety Tip: The ocean can be rough. Watch others before diving in, especially during spring months when the waves are massive.
What to Bring
- Sandals or sturdy flip-flops
- Sarong or towel
- Sunscreen and sunglasses
- Water and snacks (or support the palapas!)
- Cash (card machines may be down)
- Your best smile, open mind, and maybe a Speedo—or not!
