Tryst Puerto Vallarta Hotel Review (2026)
If Puerto Vallarta had a personality, Tryst Puerto Vallarta would be its most confident version. Opened in 2025, this adults-only, luxury boutique hotel is 100% gay-owned and operated, and it doesn’t whisper about it — it celebrates it.
From rooftop pool parties and drag brunches to thoughtful in-room details and prime Romantic Zone real estate, Tryst isn’t just another hotel opening in PV. It’s a new kind of gay resort: stylish, social, unapologetically fun, and designed for connection.
If you’re planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta — especially if you like being where the energy is — Tryst is absolutely one to watch (and book).
Why Stay at Tryst Puerto Vallarta?
Tryst is the flagship property of Tryst Hotels, founded by serial entrepreneur Tristan Schukraft — also known for The Abbey in West Hollywood and ventures like ID90 and Mistr.
What makes Tryst different isn’t just that it’s gay-owned — it’s that every inch of the hotel is intentionally designed with LGBTQ+ travelers in mind. The vibe is bold but not try-hard, luxe but playful, and social without feeling chaotic.
It’s the kind of hotel where:
- You meet people naturally at brunch or by the pool
- The design feels elevated but relaxed
- And you never feel like you have to leave to find the fun
Location: Romantic Zone Perfection
Tryst sits right in the heart of Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone — just one block from Los Muertos Beach and steps from the area’s best gay bars, restaurants, and beach clubs.
It’s also directly next to Coco’s Kitchen, one of our absolute go-to breakfast spots in PV. From tacos after bar-hopping to lazy beach mornings at Green Chairs, everything is walkable.
Design & Property Vibe
Designed by Estudio Esterlina — the same firm behind Four Seasons Tamarindo — Tryst blends modern minimalism with warm Mexican textures and clean architectural lines.
Think:
- Open courtyards
- Natural materials
- Smart lighting
- A layout that encourages movement and mingling
The property feels upscale without being stiff, sexy without being over the top, and social without ever feeling forced.
Rooftops & Amenities: Where Tryst Shines
Tryst’s biggest flex is its multi-level rooftop experience, and yes — it delivers.
The Main Rooftop (Public)
This is where the magic happens:
- Panoramic ocean views
- Pool with loungers
- Outdoor shower
- DJs and go-go dancers after Sunday drag brunch
This rooftop transforms into one of the liveliest daytime-to-evening party scenes in PV. Even non-guests can access it with a minimum spend — or just stop by for sunset cocktails.
Drinks clock in around 285 pesos, which is on the pricier side for PV, but they’re strong, well-made, and generously poured.
Guest-Only Rooftop (Second Level)
One level down is the exclusive guest rooftop, which feels more intimate:
- A second pool with plenty of loungers
- A shaded hot tub
- A quieter bar perfect for midday or pre-dinner hangs
If the main rooftop is packed, this space is a sanctuary.
A dedicated massage area (with skylights and AC) is also slated to open soon.
Fitness: What to Know (and What’s Coming)
Tryst is opening Tryst Fitness just a couple doors down in 2026 — construction is already underway.
In the meantime, two popular gay gyms nearby:
- Big Apple Gym — most popular, no AC
- Fit Club — smaller, but has AC
Rooms: Thoughtful Luxury That Actually Makes Sense
This review is for a Superior King Room with Balcony, and it checks all the boxes.
Inside you’ll find:
- Spacious layout with seating area
- Balcony overlooking the courtyard
- Flat-screen TV & functional desk with rolling chair
- Closet, luggage rack, safe & full-length mirror
The Mini Bar (Yes, It’s Free)
A huge win: the minibar is complimentary and refreshed daily — including:
- Beer
- Coca-Cola
- Sparkling water
- Electrolyte drink (next-day hero)
You’ll also get:
- Nespresso machine
- Refillable water bottles
- Filtered water stations on every guest floor
- USB and USB-C ports everywhere
Another standout? Strong central air conditioning, not mini-splits — a rarity in Mexico and a major comfort upgrade.
Bathroom
The bathroom is sleek, spacious, and flooded with natural light, making it feel more spa-like than utilitarian. The walk-in shower is generous and modern, with excellent water pressure and upscale fixtures that feel thoughtfully chosen rather than generic.
Plush towels, bright vanity lighting, and a clean, contemporary design make it a space you actually want to linger in — whether you’re getting ready for a night out or rinsing off after a day at the beach. It’s polished, comfortable, and very much in line with Tryst’s elevated-but-playful vibe.
Food & Drink: Where the Party Never Stops
Food and drinks at Trystare less about a single venue and more about how the entire property flows together socially — from your first coffee of the day to late-night cocktails.
Mornings start at the coffee bar, the perfect spot to ease into the day with a strong espresso or latte while watching the courtyard slowly come to life. It’s relaxed, social, and exactly the kind of place where one coffee accidentally turns into two… and then plans for the rest of the day.
The main restaurant and cocktail bar open directly onto the central courtyard, creating a true social hub from morning through night. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast, meeting friends for a pre-dinner drink, or starting a night out, this space is always buzzing. The open-air design makes it easy to mingle, people-watch, and feel plugged into the hotel’s energy — even if you’re just passing through.
Upstairs, the rooftop delivers in a big way. One level features an absolutely massive bar, ideal for sunset cocktails or a shaded break from the rooftop pool deck just above it. Between the sweeping ocean views, strong pours, and nonstop eye candy, it’s easily one of the most fun rooftop scenes in Puerto Vallarta.
And then there’s Sunday Drag Brunch — which is not to be missed. This is full-blown, over-the-top Tryst energy. Think Drag Race guest performers, bottomless mimosas, sexy guys passing out watermelon shots, and a crowd that knows exactly why they’re there. The finale? A wild, water-soaked rooftop moment that turns the entire space into a party. We tried at least three brunch dishes and every single one was delicious — no filler here.
After brunch, the party heads up to the rooftop and keeps going well past sunset — making Tryst one of the rare places where brunch seamlessly turns into an all-day celebration.
Overall Experience: Designed for Connection
More than a beautiful hotel, Tryst Puerto Vallarta is built around shared experiences — from courtyard cocktails to rooftop celebrations — making it as easy to connect as it is to relax.
We also love the sustainability touches — refillable bottles, water stations, and zero single-use plastics — small things that make a big difference.
Whether you stay here or just pop in for brunch or rooftop drinks, Tryst is already one of PV’s most important new gay spaces.
Travel Tips: Make the Most of Your Stay
Before we wrap up, here are a few quick travel tips for your stay:
- Getting here: Fly into Puerto Vallarta Airport (airport code: PVR). Cross the pedestrian bridge for Uber access — less expensive and pressure than using official taxis.
- Getting around: You won’t need much transport — the Romantic Zone is built for walking.
- Book early: Especially for Bear Week, Pride, and New Year.
