What’s New in Gay Puerto Vallarta (2026 Update)
New bars, new restaurants, new events, and even rising gay popular neighborhoods are shaping the scene in ways that keep things exciting whether it’s your first visit or your tenth.
After spending six weeks in Puerto Vallarta this season, we’re sharing everything that’s new—plus what it actually feels like on the ground right now, including safety, crowds, and whether it’s still worth visiting.
Spoiler alert: it absolutely is.
Is Puerto Vallarta Safe Right Now?
We know many of you had questions after headlines earlier this year, so let’s address this first.
We arrived in March and stayed through Semana Santa (Easter), one of the busiest times of the year. While things felt a bit quieter our first week, that quickly changed. By Easter week, the city was packed—full beaches, busy nightlife, and a lively energy throughout the Romantic Zone.
During our entire stay, we felt completely comfortable.
Like any destination, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings—but based on our experience, there’s no reason to cancel your trip. Puerto Vallarta is thriving, welcoming, and as vibrant as ever.

New Gay Bars & Nightlife in Puerto Vallarta
One of the best parts about PV is that there’s always something new to check out after dark.
Opal Bar PV
Located right in the heart of Zona Romántica, directly across from Mr. Flamingo, Opal Bar is one of our favorite new openings this season.
We stopped by on opening night and immediately loved the vibe—fun, flirty, and effortlessly social. It’s the kind of place where you can grab a cocktail, meet people, and kick off your night before heading deeper into the party scene.
The staff is incredibly welcoming (and let’s just say… easy on the eyes), and the happy hour deals make it an easy go-to throughout the week.
Boys PV Cruising Bar
Just steps away, Boys PV brings a very different energy to the neighborhood.
With its red-lit entrance and open-to-the-street concept, it immediately catches your attention. Inside, you’ll find a DJ, a lively bar, and then a more exploratory space as you move deeper in—including private rooms and a large “men only” area.
It gives strong European (think Amsterdam) vibes and sits directly below Spartacus Sauna, making it an interesting addition to the cruising scene.
The Rise of Versalles (And Its First Gay Bar)
One of the biggest trends we’re seeing in Puerto Vallarta is the growth of Versalles, a neighborhood just outside the Romantic Zone that’s quickly becoming a hotspot for restaurants and expats.
The Red Door
This season, Versalles officially got its first gay bar—and it’s a beautiful one.
The Red Door is a stylish cocktail bar with elevated design, great lighting, and indoor-outdoor seating. We visited on opening night and it filled up quickly, which feels like a promising sign for the neighborhood’s future.
Versalles itself is charming and walkable, with cobblestone streets and a growing food scene. We had dinner at Tartufo just across the street, and it was the perfect pairing for a more relaxed night out.
New Restaurants & Foodie Spots
Puerto Vallarta’s dining scene continues to impress, with several new openings worth adding to your list.
Evelina (Avida Food Hall)
Located inside the Avida complex, Evelina is the first concept in a new food hall—and it’s already a standout.
We’ve been twice, and everything from the Caesar salad (with massive croutons) to the pizzas and agnolotti pasta has been consistently excellent. The Mexican wine selection is also worth exploring.
Eggsboyfriend
Right across the street, Eggsboyfriend is a new breakfast spot from Lalo Gil (known for his work at Casa Cupula and Coco Cabaret).
It’s a super cute concept with great breakfast sandwiches, a relaxed vibe, and the kind of easy energy you want to start your day in Vallarta.
New Events, Drag & Community Scene
Puerto Vallarta’s social scene isn’t just about nightlife—it’s also about community.
Out & About PV Magazine Mixers
Every Tuesday during season, Out & About hosts a rotating gay mixer at a different venue—from bars to art galleries to private villas.
These events are free, incredibly social, and a great way to meet both locals and visitors. Some of the recent mixers had over 300 people in attendance, which says everything about how busy PV is right now.
Drag Bingo & Shows
At Qulture, Lalo Gil hosts bingo at Drag Social Hour with a fun crowd, drink specials, and lots of energy.
We also loved seeing Tynomi Banks perform—she brings incredible charisma and is also featured at The Palm Cabaret.
Pool Parties & Daylife
By day, Puerto Vallarta delivers just as much as it does at night.
Casa Cupula
Casa Cupula has expanded its pool party lineup to include free entrance from Thursday through Sunday except for the popular NKD party on Saturday.
And yes—clothing optional, not mandatory… but when in Vallarta.
Cheeky’s
If you prefer something more relaxed, Cheeky’s is a newer men-only, clothing-optional pool club with a more laid-back vibe.
The Tryst Puerto Vallarta
One of the most popular daytime experiences right now—and our top pick for where to stay—is the drag brunch at The Tryst.
It sells out quickly—we had to book three weeks in advance—but the energy is incredible, and the rooftop pool party that follows is free and open to the public.
Final Thoughts
Puerto Vallarta isn’t just maintaining its reputation—it’s expanding it.
New venues and experiences are constantly being added, while the welcoming, inclusive energy that made it famous in the first place is still very much intact.
If you’ve been thinking about visiting—or coming back—there’s never been a better time.
