Interested in where to find the best gay nude beaches? Well, you're in luck, as in this post and linked YouTube video, we take you on a journey around the globe to countdown ten of our favorites. We love running around in our birthday suits and always search out the best places to shed our clothes on our travels. We often find the people we meet naked are friendlier and their most authentic selves. There's zero pretense! With that intro out of the way, read on for our top 10 best gay nude beaches in the world plus one pop-up bonus beach. We also share our honorable mentions at the end of this post. Enjoy!

Destination Highlight

We kickoff our countdown of the world's best gay nude beaches with our pop-up bonus beach: Jet's Naked Beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We are absolute nature (and naturist!) fans, so we highly recommend this adventure! Not only will you find an incredibly sexy naked crew, you will land on a totally secluded beach only accessible by boat. On arrival, you can of course run around in your birthday suit, enjoy a refreshing swim, or just sit in the surf with a cold drink from the included open bar. The bartenders are also naked and gorgeous!

In addition, for one of the most impressive beaches in Mexico, don't miss the Hidden Beach on the protected Marietas Islands in Banderas Bay. Formally known as Playa del Amor, or Beach of Love, Hidden Beach is an exclusive destination that requires a 30+ minute boat ride and decent swim to reach. Check availability and book your tour here. Only 116 lucky souls are allowed daily, so it's imperative that you book well in advance. Now, let's start the countdown!

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Mykonos, Greece - Elia Beach - Rocks to Nudist Section

10. Elia Beach, Mykonos, Greece

For our first official gay nude beach on the countdown, we head to Mykonos, Greece in the dazzling Aegean Sea. Elia Beach comes in at Number 10, and it’s been our favorite gay beach on the island for years. You've no doubt heard of Paradise and Super Paradise beaches with famed Jackie O's, but Elia Nudist Beach with its fine sand, crystal clear water, and natural beauty is much more our speed.

While the main stretch of sand at Elia Beach is well serviced with beautiful sun loungers and umbrellas (some with buttons to press for service!), you have to cross over the rocks to find the small gay nudist section of the beach. To find the gay section, head to the right from the parking area if you are facing the sea. You can't miss the giant rainbow flag. After a refreshing skinny dip, head to the one and only restaurant serving up some seriously delicious Greek food and drinks.

Pro tip - For the most scenic and exciting way to arrive at Elia, why not take the water taxi to the last stop? If you're short on time, hiring a car or taxi are the easiest yet most expensive options. Alternatively, there are bus services that require some patience along the winding roads.

9. Verdinsel, Zurich, Switzerland

We stay in Europe for our next gay nude beach located surprisingly in Zurich, Switzerland. Unlike Elia, there is plenty of room to spread out along the Limmat River at Werdinsel, the gay community’s preferred beach to sunbathe, swim, and socialize naked. Head to the northwestern tip of the small island to find the FKK (naturist) section. Even in late September, we found the island teeming with naked gay men. You'll also find facilities and even concessions with shaded tables to enjoy a snack or cold beer in the textile area on the opposite end of the island.

Pro tip - Werdinsel is super easy to access by tram from the city center. We took Tram 13. You can also download the official Zurich Guide app and purchase 24 or 72-hour transit passes which includes the airport.

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA - Boy Beach

8. Boy Beach, Provincetown, USA

Hopping across the pond to the States, Boy Beach at Herring Cove in Provincetown, Massachusetts, or P-Town for short, takes the 8th spot on our countdown. Like many of the best gay nude beaches in the world, Boy Beach is a trek, requiring a bike ride and lengthy walk through the wetlands to reach the secluded gay beach. There are no services on arrival, so bring everything you need with you: water, sunblock, snacks and a towel at a minimum. It’s also not officially a nude beach, but its remoteness makes it one unofficially.

Pro tip - The easiest way to access Boy Beach is to bike (or walk) to the first bike rack on 6A (Province Lands Road) and then walk directly through the marsh. You will see the gays congregate to your left behind the dunes (and on the beach, of course, in front of the dunes) if you are looking out to the ocean. Also, check the tides before heading out to Boy Beach!

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Sydney, NSW, Australia - Obelisk Beach

7. Obelisk, Sydney, Australia

For our next gay nude beach, we head down under to Sydney, Australia, one our favorite gay travel destinations for gay nude beaches. You have multiple options from Lady Bay to Cobblers to Obelisk, our favorite and Number 7 on our countdown. If you have a car it’s a breeze to access with parking at the trail head, otherwise it’s an adventure by ride share (easiest and what we did), ferry or bus from the city center. On the plus side, you are rewarded with a sexy and fun crowd for your efforts, and a beach perfect for a refreshing dip. Again, there are no services at Obelisk, but come early to secure the best spot and enjoy a picnic with a view of Sydney Harbor.

Pro tip - We combined our visit to Obelisk with a late afternoon stop at Sydney's famous Taronga Zoo before taking the ferry return to Circular Quay. It was actually my (Trai's) birthday, and the Zoo offers $1 AUD admission on your birthday.

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Hanlans Point - Ferry

6. Hanlan's Point, Toronto, Canada

After an impressive skyline view of Toronto from the harbor, the ferry over to Hanlan's Point drops you a short walk from the popular gay nude beach. Simply follow the well-marked trail and rainbow flags. We love the thoughtful sign at the entrance reminding everyone this is a historic queer space that should be respected. Hanlan’s Point Beach is pretty expansive with the gays congregating closer to the airport side of the island (to the right when facing the water). You’ll find singles, couples, and groups of friends enjoying the warm sunshine on a summer day.

Pro tip - For our aviation geeks, you’ll enjoy great plane-spotting at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (airport code: YTZ) while you wait for the return ferry. In addition, this airport is much closer to the city center should it be an option for you.

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Sitges, Spain - Balmins Beach - View to Marina

5.Balmins, Sitges, Spain

Returning to Europe and our favorite gay travel destination in Spain, Sitges is known for its gay nude beaches and legendary nightlife. At Number 5, Balmins Beach has it all. It’s easy to access after a 10-15 minute coastal walk from town, and there’s even a full shaded bar with affordable drinks to stay or to go.

This beach is packed with sexy men especially during unbelievably popular Bears Week. We also like that the water at this beach is so calm, so it’s easy to hang out and meet new friends in the water.

Pro tip - On the walk to the marina on the far side of Balmins, you’ll find incredible views back to Sitges and the most colorful sunsets. The marina is also home to our favorite restaurant in town.

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - San Diego, California, United States - Blacks Beach - View From Above

4. Black's Beach, San Diego, USA

Heading out west to sunny San Diego, California, our next beach is the best nudist beach in the U.S. At Number 4, Black's Beach is hugely popular with the LGBTQ+ community in Southern California and around the world. It’s the largest and most expansive gay nude beach on our list. After an amazing hike from the parking area down to the beach, walk north and you’ll easily spot the gay section and rainbow flags. You’ll also have plenty of room to spread out.

Pro tip - If you are staying in the Gaslamp district and on a budget, you can take the blue line trolley to the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and walk about 30-minutes or so to the Black's Beach trailhead. Otherwise, if you are staying in Hillcrest, the gayborhood in San Diego, we recommend renting a car or using Lyft to access Black's Beach.

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Cape Town, South Africa - Sandy Bay Beach

3. Sandy Bay, Cape Town, South Africa

For one of our new favorites, we were blown away by the natural beauty at Sandy Bay, Cape Town's famous gay nude beach. It's simply breathtaking. To get down to the beach, you’ll need to hike about twenty-minutes from the parking and ride share drop off area, but you’ll be rewarded the entire way with stunning views of the beach and Atlantic Ocean.

The Hike Back

Sandy Bay is definitely one of our new favorite gay nude beaches in the world. It’s remote, sparklingly clean, and just the right size. It’s not too big like Black's Beach in San Diego and not too small like Obelisk in Sydney. There’s also a friendly, young and attractive crowd here. And it’s pet-friendly, our favorite, with incredible mountain and sea views. The only downside to Sandy Bay is the uphill hike back to the road.

Pro tip - The easiest way to get to Sandy Bay from the De Waterkant gay village is by Uber. The trip takes less than 30-minutes and cost us R192 ZAR or about $10 as of the original post date of this article. Surprisingly, on return, we only had to wait for 4 minutes!

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico - Playa del Amor - Beach of Love - Gay Flag

2. Playa del Amor, Zipolite, Mexico

If you like to relax on a rustic beach and watch unbelievable sunsets in the nude, beer in hand, you will love Playa del Amor, in Zipolite, Mexico.

As Mexico’s first legal nude beach, Zipolite is also not exclusively a gay-beach as most nudist beaches are of course open to everyone, but you’ll find gay flags at venues all along the main beach. At sunset, the gay community congregates over the stairs at the far east end of the beach at Playa del Amor, the beach of love. It’s a hugely social environment and great place to meet locals and fellow travelers for a beer or nude swim. In addition to spectacular sunsets, there are often fire performers, and the party goes late into the night.
Pro tip - Located just steps from town and Playa del Amor, Hotel Nude and Hotel Naked are two of our favorite hotels in Zipolite. Both of these amazing hotels are beachfront, and Hotel Nude has the only pool directly on the beach.

For more travel tips and our complete Gay Travel Guide to Zipolite, including our favorite gay hotels, bars, clubs, and restaurants, click here for our blog post and here to watch our latest YouTube video. We've made numerous videos to help you plan a trip here, as we spent many months in Zipolite while we waited for our house to be finished in Tulum (another place you can swim naked!).

Two Gay Expats - Gay Nude Beaches - Sitges, Spain - Playa del Muerto - Andy & Trai

1. Playa del Muerto, Sitges, Spain

We’ve reached the end of our countdown, and Playa del Muerto in Sitges, Spain takes our top spot as the best gay nude beach in the world. It’s also our favorite. We love the trek along the iconic railroad tracks to reach the beach, and its history as the world’s first gay beach since the 1930’s.

Playa del Muerto is sexy, swimmable, and offers beach loungers for rent as well as a cafe just above the beach. There’s also a magic forest across the tracks and the infamous cave that you can adventure on over to later in the day. It’s a fun and friendly international crowd, and everyone at Playa del Muerto—and in Sitges in general—is ready to have a good time!

With two gay nude beaches on our countdown, we can’t recommend Sitges, Spain highly enough to consider for your next gay holiday. In addition to the best gay beaches, you’ll find incredible gay nightlife as well as reasonably priced hotels and restaurants. It’s truly a destination for everyone.

Pro tip - To access Playa del Muerto, Google Maps will send you the long way through a residential neighborhood and the magic forest. The easier and more scenic route is to walk to the Terramar Golf Club entrance and continue down to the beach. Follow the access road (no cars allowed) to the abandoned beach club and hike over the hill keeping left of the railroad tracks down to Playa del Muerto. The first nudist beach, Platja de L'Home Mort on Google Maps, is not the beach you are looking for, it's the next one. Please keep off the tracks and watch out for oncoming trains as they are moving at high speed.

Hospiten Hospital - Andy Waiting To Be Checked Out By The Doc
Hospiten Riviera Maya Emergency Room

Travel Insurance – Don’t forget to add global travel medical insurance that covers you while traveling outside of your home country. We recommend Safety Wing. You can buy it even if you are already abroad. Most health coverage in the U.S. for example does not cover you in Mexico, thus it’s extremely important to protect yourself from out of pocket costs due to a medical emergency. We learned this the hard way which you can watch here. To learn more about Safety Wing, click here.

Travel Credit Card – For the best travel credit card, we recommend the Chase Sapphire Reserve. We use it to book free stays with reward points, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, primary car rental insurance, lounge access through Priority Pass, and to avoid foreign transaction fees just to name a few of this card’s incredible perks. To learn more, click here.  Even though there is a hefty $550 annual fee, you get a credit of $300 for travel (i.e. airfare, uber, etc). For the remaining $250, the card easily pays for itself with free food and drinks at the complimentary airport lounges we frequent. Also, if you don’t have global entry yet, another card benefit covers that application fee! Trai has had the card since 2017, and it’s his only credit card.

Car Rental – Should your travel plans call for hiring a car, we use rentalcars.com to search the best prices among the major car rental companies. With flexible rentals, no hidden fees, and price match guarantee, we feel confident booking with them. Just make sure to book with your Chase Sapphire Reserve for extra protection.
