Why Stay at Thompson New York: What’s New for 2026

Part of Hyatt’s Thompson Hotels collection, Thompson New York blends modern boutique style with classic Manhattan sophistication. The property feels chic and contemporary without being overly trendy — polished, artistic, and quietly luxurious.

The hotel recently underwent a major redesign, transforming the space into a mid-century-inspired urban retreat with warm wood tones, rich textures, and elegant lighting throughout the property.

One of the standout features is the hotel’s Upper Stories experience, an elevated stay option that includes premium rooms, exclusive lounge access, and enhanced services.

The hotel also offers:

  • A well-equipped fitness center
  • Valet parking
  • Spa services
  • Multiple restaurants and lounges onsite

Together, these amenities create a full luxury hotel experience while maintaining the relaxed vibe Thompson properties are known for.

Location: Steps from Central Park and Hell’s Kitchen

Location is everything in the city, and Thompson New York delivers.

The hotel sits only a few blocks from Central Park on 56th Street, making morning walks, bike rides, or sunset strolls incredibly convenient.

  • Carnegie Hall
  • Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
  • Rockefeller Center
  • Times Square
  • Broadway theaters
  • Fifth Avenue shopping

For LGBTQ+ travelers, another major perk is that Hell’s Kitchen’s gay nightlife is only about a 10-minute walk away. Bars like Rise, Flaming Saddles, and 9th Avenue Saloon are close enough for an easy night out but far enough that the hotel still feels peaceful.

If it’s your first visit to New York, this location puts you in the center of everything.

Facilities: Polished Midtown Energy

From the moment you walk into the lobby, the hotel feels unmistakably New York.

The space is stylish and energetic — exactly the kind of atmosphere you want before heading out to explore the city.

The property offers a modern fitness center with plenty of equipment for a quick workout before a day of sightseeing. There’s also valet parking and concierge services to help arrange everything from Broadway tickets to restaurant reservations.

But perhaps the most noticeable feature is simply the buzz of the lobby itself. Thompson hotels have a reputation for creating social spaces that feel lively without being chaotic, and this property nails that balance perfectly.

Rooms: Spacious Luxury (By Manhattan Standards)

Luxury hotel rooms in New York can sometimes feel surprisingly small — but that’s not the case here.

Our room at Thompson Central Park featured a large entryway leading into a bright, mid-century modern space with city views.

Highlights of the room included:

  • A plush king bed with incredibly comfortable bedding
  • A comfortable couch seating area
  • Dry bar and mini fridge
  • Large television and multiple charging stations
  • Plenty of storage including closets, drawers, and a safe

We especially appreciated the thoughtful details like USB ports and outlets on both sides of the bed, which makes a big difference when charging phones, cameras, and laptops while traveling.

The bathroom continues the upscale feel with luxury D.S. & Durga bath products, plush towels, and a clean modern design that feels calm and spa-like after a busy day in the city.

Overall, the room felt both stylish and genuinely comfortable — something we always appreciate after long days exploring Manhattan.

Food & Drink: Excellent Dining Options Onsite

One of the best parts of staying at Thompson Central Park is that you don’t have to go far for great food.

Parker’s

Located just off the lobby, Parker’s serves breakfast and features a cozy, jazz-inspired atmosphere that feels perfect for starting your day in Manhattan.

We had breakfast here each morning during our stay, and it quickly became part of our daily routine before heading out to explore the city.

The menu includes classic breakfast options along with seasonal dishes, making it a relaxed and delicious way to begin the day.

Burger Joint

For something more casual, the famous Burger Joint inside the hotel remains one of the city’s most beloved hidden burger spots.

Indian Accent

The hotel is also home to Indian Accent, one of New York’s most acclaimed modern Indian restaurants, offering refined dishes and inventive flavors.

Of course, Midtown also means you’re surrounded by fantastic restaurants. One of our favorites nearby is Quality Italian, which we visited twice during this trip thanks to our Chase Sapphire Reserve dining credit.
