Lufthansa A380 Business Class Review: Munich to Los Angeles
Here’s what it’s really like to fly Lufthansa A380 Business Class, including our honest thoughts on the seat, service, food, and overall value.
Arrival at Munich Airport and Check-In
We arrived at Munich International Airport via the train from the city center—quick, easy, and super efficient. Instead of heading upstairs, we used the self-serve kiosks near the train station to print our boarding passes since we weren’t checking any luggage.
For those with checked bags, Lufthansa has dedicated First and Business Class check-in counters just before the iconic departure board. Security was equally efficient with separate Business Class lanes where you simply scan your boarding pass to enter.

Terminal Experience and Lounge
Getting to the L gates takes a bit of a walk, but it’s necessary to accommodate the size of the A380. We stopped into the Lufthansa Senator Lounge, but honestly—it was packed. Every seat taken, buffet and bar ransacked. So we headed to the gate instead, which felt far more relaxed and spacious.
Boarding the Lufthansa A380
Boarding began a few minutes late at gates L28 and L30. Gate L30 is reserved for First and Business Class passengers boarding the upper deck, while Economy boards through L28 and the lower level.
This was Andy’s first time on the A380, and my first time flying the upper deck in Business Class—so naturally, we were excited!
Business Class Cabin & Seat Review
The Lufthansa A380 Business Class cabin is arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration. We were seated in 22H and 22K on the upper deck. The cabin feels bright and spacious, especially with the additional window-side storage compartments, unique to the A380—perfect for small bags or laptops.
At our seats, we found:
- Pillow and blanket
- Mattress pad (placed on the footrest)
- Bottled water in the front drawer
- USB port, two universal outlets
- Slide-out TV screen with remote
- Coat hook, eyeglass holder
- Noise-canceling headphones
Tray tables are housed in the center console, and while we were concerned about aisle access due to the 2-2-2 layout, the tray swivels out of the way for easy exit.
Pre-Departure Service
Before takeoff, we were offered sparkling wine and almonds. Menus were also distributed, and we were especially excited to see a vintage 2013 Lanson Champagne featured—available after takeoff.
After a 20-minute taxi, we had a smooth and surprisingly quiet departure over the beautiful Bavarian countryside. One thing that stands out immediately on the A380 is how silent the cabin is—perfect for relaxation.
Lunch Service
The dining experience on this flight was flagship level, despite some mixed reviews we’ve heard in the past. Here’s what we had:
Starters
- Trai: Tuna Tataki
- Andy: Smoked Duck Breast
Main Course (both)
- Vegetarian Kung Pao with pumpkin, broccoli, sesame, and jasmine rice — bursting with flavor and easily one of the best vegetarian airline meals we’ve ever had.
Dessert
- Chocolate hazelnut cake with cherry compote
- Andy also tried the cheese selection and fruit cup—fresh and satisfying.
We followed it all with a glass (or two… or three) of that fabulous Lanson Champagne, served alongside little praline chocolates. Divine.
Amenities and Lavatories
Tucked under the bottled water, we found a small but well-stocked amenity kit including:
- L’Occitane products
- Facial mist and refreshing towelettes
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Eye mask
- Ear plugs
- Socks
- Headphone covers
- Mint
The business class lavatories for us were between the two upper-deck business class cabins and were well-maintained and stocked with:
- L’Occitane hand lotion
- Mouthwash
- Facial mist and refreshing towelettes
As frequent flyers, we love these little touches—especially the lotion to fight dry cabin air.
Inflight Entertainment & Wi-Fi
Each seat features a large screen with:
- Movies, TV, games, music
- A remote to control lighting and entertainment
- Interactive flight map
We purchased onboard Wi-Fi for €29 for the full flight. The connection was mostly stable with just a few slow patches—solid for messaging, social, and even uploading. It was surprising though that Wi-FI is not included for Business Class passengers.
Sleep and Snack Time
After a few hours of rest, the crew passed through with a self-serve snack tray—no limit to what you could take. We grabbed a couple items and, of course, treated ourselves to another glass of champagne.
Major shoutout to the crew who consistently refreshed our glassware throughout the flight without ever needing to ask.
Dinner Service
Roughly two hours before arrival, hot towels signaled the start of the second meal service. We both chose the Potato Dumplings with Roasted Mushrooms in a Cream Sauce—hearty, warm, and satisfying.
To finish, Lufthansa gifted a final box of chocolates—a classy touch before descent.
Service & Final Thoughts
Our crew was exceptional—friendly, efficient, and always smiling. Lufthansa’s Business Class hard product (the seat) may be a bit outdated for solo travelers, but it’s ideal for couples traveling together. And in our experience, the service, food, and amenities more than made up for the lack of privacy.
After a very stormy transatlantic cruise and rainy few days in Munich, we landed in sunny Los Angeles and made our way to Palm Springs feeling refreshed and well-fed.
Bottom Line
Lufthansa A380 Business Class exceeded our expectations in all the right ways. The cabin is ultra-quiet, the crew was attentive, and the food? Truly some of the best we’ve had in the sky.
It’s not the most private seat for solo travelers, but it’s a solid long-haul choice for couples—especially if you can score a good redemption or upgrade deal.
Would we fly it again? Absolutely. Especially once Lufthansa rolls out their Allegris Business Class with direct aisle access for all.
