We’ve been coming here for years, and on our most recent visit, we were excited to see new venues popping up and longtime favorites leveling up their game. The post-pandemic influx of newcomers from cities like New York and L.A. has also transformed many of Greater Fort Lauderdale’s neighborhoods, bringing even more diversity and energy to the scene. Plus, with a large LGBTQ+ retiree community, the vibe here is a fun, relaxed mix of locals, snowbirds, and international travelers. No matter where you’re from, you’ll feel right at home.

Beyond its thriving nightlife and beach culture, Fort Lauderdale is also a major cruise hub. With one of the world’s busiest ports, it’s the perfect launchpad for a getaway on new ships like Celebrity Apex, Beyond, and Ascent from the ultra-gay-friendly Celebrity Cruises. Many travelers (ourselves included!) opt to book a stay at Pineapple Point or The Grand Resort & Spa (Worthington Resorts) before or after their cruise for a little extra indulgence. And if you're setting sail from the Port of Miami—the world’s cruising capital—it’s less than an hour’s drive away.

How to Get Here

By Air – Fort Lauderdale is served by three international airports within an hour’s drive, making it a convenient destination no matter where you’re coming from. The closest and most convenient option is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (airport code: FLL), just 7 miles from the city’s top gay beach resorts. A Lyft or Uber ride from FLL to Wilton Manors or Fort Lauderdale Beach takes about 20-25 minutes.

Alternatively, you can fly into Miami International Airport (airport code: MIA), a major hub with more international connections, or Palm Beach International Airport (airport code: PBI) to the north. By Train – If you’re exploring more of South Florida or heading to Orlando, the Brightline offers a fast and comfortable ride between Orlando International Airport (airport code: MCO), West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura, and Miami. The Fort Lauderdale station is conveniently located downtown, making it a great option for travelers without a car.

By Car – Fort Lauderdale is easily accessible via I-95, which runs along Florida’s east coast. If you’re coming from Miami, it’s about a 35-minute drive north, while West Palm Beach is roughly an hour south. We’ve found Lyft rides from The Grand Resort & Spa to Wilton Manors for as low as $9 USD and downtown Fort Lauderdale to the Port of Miami for just $35 USD.
