3 Best Gay Hotels in Puerto Vallarta in 2024
Where to stay – For gay hotels, we highly recommend Casa Cupula, a luxury, gay-owned boutique LGBTQ+ hotel with amazing views, located approximately 12-minutes walking up the hill from the Los Muertos gay beach.
This sophisticated and pet-friendly resort has it all from luxury rooms and suites, a bistro, clothing-optional pool club and bar, and popular gym and spa. Weekend theme parties are open to the public (pool club only), and we can guarantee you'll have a fun time!
For us, Casa Cupula is the most luxurious and romantic of the gay resorts in Puerto Vallarta. In terms of rooms, suites, and premium suites for guests, the three categories available, every option is unique so you do need to be somewhat flexible on your room assignment, but trust us, you’ll be happy with any room here. We particularly like the thoughtful details like plush robes and towels, high-end bedding, and luxurious bath products in every room. In addition, some of the suites come with extras like double showers, an outdoor jacuzzi or heated dipping pool, expansive balcony with ocean view, kitchenette, or even in-unit laundry.
In addition to fabulous rooms and suites, Casa Cupula offers a delicious bistro, where you can have breakfast on the patio, or enjoy a drag show on the weekend. At the gym, you’ll find a surprisingly large fitness center and spa. You can also opt to have a massage in the pool area for hotel guests only. The Pool Club is completely separate next door with its own entrance to maintain exclusivity for hotel guests.
At the gym, you’ll find a surprisingly large fitness center and spa. You can also opt to have a massage in the pool area for hotel guests only. The Pool Club is completely separate next door with its own entrance to maintain exclusivity for hotel guests. We love the weekend events like Adam & Steve on Fridays and the Naked Pool Party on Saturdays.
Perhaps our favorite guest area is the rooftop infinity pool with outdoor shower. Just look at that view! If we could afford a long-term stay here, we would do it in a heartbeat!
For the largest and most well-known gay hotel in Puerto Vallarta, the Almar Resort Luxury LGBTQ+ Beachfront Experience (the name says it all!) likely needs no introduction. You’ve seen the social media posts at Mantamar, Almar’s famous pool and beach club with the suspended hot tub. But have you seen any of the spectacular rooms and exclusive hotel guest only areas? We definitely prefer the hotel's guest only Eden Pool & Lounge Garden on the 5th floor to Mantamar, the wild and raucous gay pool party and event space right on the beach—BUT you have both options if you book a stay here.
In the newly renovated Almar Tower, we recommend booking one of the following three room types. For added romance or to treat yourself, reserve a Romance Suite with king bed and in-room jacuzzi with ocean view or the Junior Suite, which is the only room with a kitchenette and bar. If your party requires two queen beds instead of a king, then choose the Almar Deluxe Room with ocean view. In total, there are 138 rooms with over a dozen room categories, but for sure, we’d be happy with any of these three rooms!
If you are looking for a well-located, budget-friendly gay hotel, that has been a staple on the gay scene in Puerto Vallarta for over 20-years, then look no further than Hotel Mercurio. This gem of a hotel is the first place I (Trai) stayed in PV on my first trip with friends over a decade ago. If you’ve been to Mercurio before, Gabriel has been here since 2003, so you’ve likely seen his welcoming, smiling face on arrival, or owner Paul Crist. We love supporting gay owned businesses.
In terms of rooms, Mercurio offers smaller Queen Rooms and larger King Rooms. First, we visit poolside room Number 101, one of the smaller Queen Rooms at Mercurio, but it has everything you’d need for an enjoyable stay. It comes with an AC and fan which are critical during the hot and humid summers. You’ll also enjoy an en-suite bathroom and shower with plenty of towels, and there’s even an in-room safe, mini-fridge, and extra pillow as well. Rooms at Mercurio are also pet-friendly, but they ask not to leave your pet unattended in the rooms for the comfort of other guests.
Hotel Mercurio is also open to the public for breakfast and events, so feel free to pop by and check it out for yourself. The breakfast is included for all hotel guests, and also available for a small fee if you’re not staying here. Even if you decide to stay elsewhere, don't miss Beers, Boys and Burgers from 4-7pm on Sundays. It’s crazy popular and fun with live entertainment ranging from drag queens to gogo dancers and more. We always have a blast here!
While not exclusively gay, Hotel Posada de Roger is a popular choice with the LGBTQ+ community. The location also can’t be beat, as it’s right in the middle of the Romantic Zone a.k.a. the gayborhood. You will be just steps from the most popular gay bars and clubs and the Los Muertos gay beach and beach clubs.
In terms of rooms, this budget-friendly option offers traditional Mexican decor, AC, hot showers, daily housekeeping, a pool with loungers and good sun, and a friendly, low-key vibe. For longer stays, they also offer a communal kitchen and dining area. One thing to note is the safes are located near reception and not in the rooms.
Finally, if you are looking for unparalleled luxury just steps from the Romantic Zone, Casa Kimberly will surely impress. Formerly the love nest of gay icon Elizabeth Taylor and actor Richard Burton, this historic mansion is home to the “Puente Del Amor” or the Bridge of Love. Casa Kimberly is actually comprised of two residences, as the couple lived on opposite sides of the street with the bridge connecting the two lovers.
The two former homes combine to create nine suites, a spa, pool, and open-air restaurant and tequila bar called The Iguana, which is a destination in its own right. For a truly breathtaking hotel, dining, and spa experience, Casa Kimberly is perfect for special occasions.

Travel Resources
Travel Insurance – Don’t forget to add global travel medical insurance that covers you while traveling outside of your home country. We recommend Safety Wing. You can buy it even if you are already abroad. Most health coverage in the U.S. for example does not cover you in Mexico, thus it’s extremely important to protect yourself from out of pocket costs due to a medical emergency. We learned this the hard way which you can watch here. To learn more about Safety Wing, click here.
Car Rental – Should your travel plans call for hiring a car, we use rentalcars.com to search the best prices among the major car rental companies. Hi! We're Two Gay Expats
Hi gorgeous, and welcome to our LGBTQ+ travel blog! We're Andy and Trai, a gay couple traveling the world with PRIDE 🌈 …and our rescue dog, Pattie!
After meeting in San Francisco in 2018 and later moving to Chicago, we decided to quit our jobs in 2021, sell everything, and become Two Gay Expats. For over two years, we explored the best of gay Mexico while waiting for our house, Casa Cangrejo, to be completed in Tulum. We got married at The Beach Tulum in 2020 and became Mexican permanent residents in 2022.
Today, we continue to travel around Mexico and the world to show you our favorite places. If you'd like to follow our adventures, subscribe on YouTube and join us on Instagram.
